MEETINGS REALLY MATTER: President Barack Obama has been meeting with Republican members of Congress this week to discuss how they can work together to find long-term solutions, but this is just the first step. No Labels Co-Founder Bill Galston says that leaders in Washington have to do more than just meet once -- that is why we are bringing together the problem solvers in Congress, to meet across the aisle regularly and talk about real solutions in a safe space:

TIMELINE SET: President Obama has set a goal for reaching an across-the-aisle deal on reducing the deficit by the end of July. “There is an opportunity here to do what some members of Congress and leaders have said they would like to do... and that is return to some sense of normalcy here, regular order, engage in a budget process and negotiation and debate that hopefully produces a bipartisan compromise,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said. In order to meet this goal and move from continuing resolutions to actual long-term plans, everyone will have to come to the table:

CLOCK IS TICKING: We are less than three weeks away from the deadline to keep the government funded, and both chambers of Congress are working hard to reach a deal. Senate Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers are working to reach an agreement across chambers, as the House recently passed a stopgap bill and the Senate has said it will have a full-year plan with appropriation bills:
