Compromise or Collapse

The time to solve problems is running out. Yet, the Washington Post reports that Obama and Boehner can agree on one thing: the need for a “far-reaching plan.” Both President Obama and Speaker Boehner agreed that the parties must compromise or else let the economic future of our country “collapse under the weight of partisan resistance.”

Although the leadership seems keen to compromise, many Democrats and Republicans in Congress remain skeptical. Both sides continue to tie conditions to making a deal, and won’t put everything on the table. Instead of serving the interests of their constituents, they seem to only represent their party.

While our leaders are starting to have productive conversations, it’s time for all our elected officials to make productive choices.
