High-Fiving Congress

No Labels is high-fiving Congress for working together for the common good and for the country by passing the STOCK Act in a bipartisan manner -- the vote was 96-3 in the Senate. The bill is ready for the president’s signature. We haven’t had a lot to high-five Congress for over the past year, so this bill -- and the way it was passed -- is a refreshing change and a step in the right direction.

“I believe those who make the laws should live under the same laws as everyone else,” Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) said. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) said that the bill was a positive step toward re-establishing trust with the American people.

We agree. The STOCK Act came through Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Sen. Susan Collins’ (R-ME) Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs -- the same committee that already held a hearing on No Budget, No Pay.

This is the first major piece of congressional “ethics” legislation in more than five years -- and it opens the door for Congress to take another major step forward, passing the No Budget, No Pay Act.

Here’s hoping that this first step is just a precursor to a second that will go even further to restoring Americans’ trust in Congress. Let’s keep pushing for No Budget, No Pay, but let’s be sure to pause and high-five Congress when it takes a step in the right direction.
