No Labels Radio: Senator Kerrey's Advice to Congress

Former Senator and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Bob Kerrey joined Nancy Jacobson and Mark McKinnon on No Labels radio today to discuss the debt ceiling and hyper-partisanship in Congress.

As a former member of Congress, Senator Kerry advised his peers: "If you follow a traditional democratic route, or a traditional republican route, you’re not going to solve the serious fiscal problems of the country and you’re not going to likely get the economy growing again in a strong and sustainable fashion -- because the answers aren’t going to be the traditional republican or the traditional democratic answers.” It is imperative, he argued, that lawmakers ask themselves what is best for America, not what is best for their party.

The call also featured Lisa Quigley, Chief of Staff to Representative Jim Cooper (D-TN), and Brad Fitch, President & CEO of the Congressional Management Foundation. Brad wrapped up the show with his unique perspective on citizen activism—having written the "Citizen’s Handbook to Influencing Elected Officials". He emphasized the importance of contacting your representatives and utilizing  social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter to do so.
