No Labels In The News

Extreme hyper partisanship has to stop. It is time for the citizens to take back the country and demand proper government. Because frankly, the government has long been acting just short of a drama-filled reality show and it is a little embarrassing.

When did governing our nation become more like sport, with a focus on beating the opponent with ESPN-styled media coverage? Do the parties of “no” and “my way or the highway” no longer represent your personal values and principals? Do you remember when collaboration and compromise were good traits to have as a politician? Do you believe the only pledge politicians should make is to uphold the Constitution, rather than upholding a separate agenda such as the Norquist Tax Pledge? Burt Cohen argues that No Labels speaks for only the Republican party and describes it as a "shadowy group" made up of a "lobbyist-driven, rich-people-coddling set of proposals" ("'No Labels' no good for Democrats," Aug. 24-Sept. 6 NHBR). Mr. Cohen's comments could not be further from the truth.

Making a budget for our country is one of Congress' most important jobs. But it hasn't passed a full budget or required spending bills on time since 1995. One solution to that problem is the No Budget, No Pay bill proposed by No Labels (it's one of 12 common-sense ideas for making Congress work).

Labor Day weekend is a good time to discuss the No Budget, No Pay Act working it’s way through congress. This new law would suspend pay for members of Congress if they fail to pass a concurrent budget resolution and all 12 annual spending bills on time.- No work, no pay. It now has 90 sponsors in Congress.
