No Labels is high-fiving Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) for stating that he disagrees with an anti-tax pledge conceived by Grover Norquist’s group Americans for Tax Reform. The pledge binds candidates to oppose any and all tax increases, in addition to oppose any tax deduction decreases.

Graham had previously signed the pledge, but now believes that the country’s debt problem is so severe that lawmakers cannot afford to adhere to it. “We’re so far in debt,” says Graham, “that if we don’t give up some ideological ground, the country sinks.”

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) rolls out his budget today, and instead of a Democratic plan, he will unveil a budget based on the Bowles-Simpson deficit-reduction plan. While we applaud Conrad for actually introducing a budget that could be viable for members from both political parties, it's truly disappointing that no mark-up vote will likely be held on the budget until after the elections. Congress continues to drive us off a fiscal cliff and the American people are trapped in the back seat
