“Partisans Blame, Patriots Fix”

No Labels Supporters Take to Capitol, Demand Answers and Action

WASHINGTON, D.C. – With time running short, No Labels supporters descended on the Capitol yesterday, welcoming back House members from their 11 day break and demanding they stay in Washington and cancel further recesses until the debt crisis is resolved.

“Common sense would say the House will cancel its planned 9 day recess in mid-July, but Americans don’t know what lawmakers will do after taking an 11 day break for July 4th,” said No Labels Founding Leader Jonathan Miller. “Will members of Congress stand with the American people or stick with the same old gridlock and inaction that got us into this mess in the first place?”

As The Los Angeles Times recently reported, “the 112th Congress is on pace to be one of the least productive in recent memory – as measured by votes taken, bills made into laws, nominees approved…underperforming even the “do-nothing Congress” of 1948, as Harry Truman dubbed it.” [The Los Angeles Times, 7/3/11]

Added No Labels Founding Leader David Walker, “When both sides only come to the table with political rhetoric and ultimatums, nothing ever gets done. A plan can only turn into a solution if it includes meaningful dialogue and constructive compromise that can achieve bipartisan support. Otherwise, it is just more political posturing and gridlock. Partisans blame. Patriots fix. It is time for lawmakers to stand up for all Americans and get a deal done.”

No Labels is a national citizens' movement of Independents, Democrats, and Republicans that urges bipartisan cooperation in the interest of common sense solutions.
