As the political temperature in this election year rises, the public’s trust in government has fallen to historic lows. According to Gallup, in the 1960s more than 75% of Americans said they trusted the federal government “to do the right thing just about always” or “most of the time.” As of September 2011, asking the same question, CNN found only 15% of Americans agreed.
