You hear about the problems this country faces all the time. The media never let you forget that there are pressing issues all around us and a political system that is gridlocked. Everyone has their own opinions about what will fix the problems, however very rarely does something actually get accomplished.
Congress has passed spending bills on schedule a whopping four times since 1952, and it has been more than 1,000 days since Congress passed a concurrent budget resolution, and that is one of Congress’ primary functions.
The people of this country are fed up with inaction. There is growing support for a non-partisan solution to help fix the gridlock we see in Congress. No Labels’ 12-point Make Congress Work! action plan will hold Congress accountable again. Polling for this plan shows that 88 percent of Americans agree with the idea. In order to change the incentive structure for Congress, No Labels has put forth a simple idea to start with: no budget, no pay.
No Budget-no pay bills have already been introduced in the Senate (S. 1981) by Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., and in the House (H.R. 3643) by Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., and both bills have numerous bipartisan co-sponsors. There is a Senate committee hearing scheduled for the No Budget, No Pay Act on March 14 .
Don’t think that you can’t help. Visit nolabels.org and get in touch with your members of Congress and tell them to support No Budget, No Pay. There is still time to find solutions to our problems. There is still time to stop talking about it and start doing something about it. Together, we can make Congress work.
