Use Government Purchasing to Transition to Cleaner Fuels
About the Problem
The U.S. is too dependent on foreign oil.
Since the 1970s OPEC embargo, American leaders have understood that the U.S. is far too vulnerable to supply disruptions and price spikes in international oil markets. But there has been a lot more talk than action. We need U.S. leaders to commit to reducing American reliance on oil, particularly in our transportation sector.
About the Policy
Government agencies that are large buyers of vehicles — such as the Department of Defense and the U.S. Postal Service — should prioritize the purchase of vehicles that run on natural gas electricity.
Polling data derived from three national surveys conducted by Cohen Research Group in February and March 2016. Each survey had a sample size of at least 1,000 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.1%
