They said it is absolutely urgent for Congress to act now to secure our border and get help to America’s allies in Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

There are currently two different bipartisan proposals in Congress that would secure our border and get aid to our allies. The Senate recently passed a bill by a 70-29 margin. When Speaker Johnson said that bill couldn’t pass the House, Reps. Fitzpatrick and Golden sprung into action to create the more targeted Defending Borders, Defending Democracies Act.
America – and the world – will be watching to see what Speaker Johnson does in the coming days. Can we defend our borders and support our allies? Or will partisan inaction lead us to retreat inwards and fail to meet the moment?
There’s a deal to be done here, but to do that, Speaker Johnson needs to get it out of legislative limbo and make it open for discussion. He has the chance to do the right thing for America, and the heroic thing, by bringing the Fitzpatrick-Golden bill to the floor for a vote.
