The Midterms Show a Nation Tired of the Extremes
American politics are the most fractious they’ve been in modern history. But judging by the results of the 2022 midterms, it’s evident that while the U.S. is a deeply divided nation, those divisions are not insurmountable.
Exit polling showed us that the Republican and Democratic parties were each disapproved of by a majority of Americans. According to CNN, 93% of voters believed that at least one of the two parties has become too extreme in its views.
At the same time, many of the most bipartisan members of Congress were reelected, defeating more partisan challengers in closely watched races. Meanwhile, almost every candidate who embraced conspiracy theories and questioned the integrity of America’s election systems was defeated.
With a split Congress likely for the next two years, the American people will be looking to their representatives to come together and help solve the challenges that unite us.
