With control of the House and Senate, as well as governors’ mansions across the country up for grabs this election season, the 2022 elections are set to be the most expensive midterms in the nation’s history.

The nonpartisan group AdImpact projects that nationwide spending on political ads will end up totaling nearly $10 billion, well ahead of non-presidential ad spending in 2018 or 2020.

Unsurprisingly, both Republicans and Democrats are devoting the most money toward closely contested campaigns, particularly for the U.S. Senate, where the margin of control is razor-thin.
