Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took to the Senate floor to call for fixes to the filibuster, adding his voice to a growing reform movement. There have been 100 filibusters in the Senate in the last two years alone.
Today No Labels released the results of a poll of Maine voters showing 92 percent support for the No Budget, No Pay Act. The No Budget, No Pay Act (H.R. 3634/S. 1981) – which is co-sponsored by Sen. Olympia Snowe and Rep. Mike Michaud and supported by independent Senate candidate Angus King – would withhold congressional pay if members of Congress fail to pass a joint budget and spending bills on time.

On Wednesday, March 14 at 10 a.m. ET in 342 Dirksen Senate Office Building, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hear testimony on the No Budget, No Pay Act and other reforms from the No Labels Make Congress Work! action plan in a hearing entitled “Raising the Bar for Congress: Reform Proposals for the 21st Century.”
The Democratic Blue Dog Coalition today endorsed the No Labels No Budget, No Pay Act (H.R. 3643). The bill ceases pay for members of Congress if they fail to pass all appropriations bills and the budget on time.
“No Labels shares Senator Snowe’s frustration with the polarization and gridlock that is gripping Capitol Hill,” said No Labels co-founder Mark McKinnon. “Too many competent legislators have retired from Congress for the same reason as Senator Snowe. They’re sick and tired of being trapped in a rotten system.”
With the expected release of the President’s budget this coming Monday, No Labels today ran a full-page ad in the The New York Times, and sent a letter to congressional leadership calling on Congress to pass the bipartisan No Budget, No Pay Act .
